How to braai at Huis Agt
A braai is not a barbecue. It is an evening, and the fire matters as much as the food. Huis Agt has an outdoor braai built into the covered terrace, with wood stacked beside it.
Buy meat at Deli-co Butchery & Bistro in the village: boerewors, lamb chops and a piece of sirloin will cover most groups. Pick up bread, a salad and a bottle of something local on the way back.
Light the fire about an hour before you want to eat. Let the wood burn down to glowing coals that you can hold your hand over for just a few seconds. Cook the wors first, then the chops, and leave the steak until last.
Then do what everyone in the valley does: sit outside long after the food is finished and watch the stars come out over the Kasteelberg.
