Why stay in Riebeek Kasteel?
Most visitors to the Cape Winelands head for Stellenbosch or Franschhoek. Both are beautiful, and both are busy. Riebeek Kasteel offers the same ingredients, wine, food, mountains and old Cape farms, in a village that still feels like a village.
The setting is the first reason. Riebeek Kasteel sits at the foot of the Kasteelberg, with vineyards, olive groves and wheat fields running out across the valley. Come over the Bothmaskloof Pass and you see all of it at once.
The second reason is scale. You can walk from your door to the square, the galleries, a wine shop and a dozen places to eat. The tasting rooms are a few minutes' drive away, and the people pouring the wine are often the people who made it.
The third reason is time. Cape Town is about an hour away, close enough for a day trip and far enough that the city noise does not follow you. Over the next weeks we will go through the reasons one by one. Start with whichever one sounds most like you.
