Why cyclists choose Riebeek

The Riebeek Valley has long been popular with cyclists, and it is easy to see why. The farm roads are quiet, the scenery changes constantly, and the Kasteelberg gives every ride a landmark.

Mountain bikers can ride a loop of around 34 kilometres from the village to a viewpoint with a sculpture of the number 8, or the longer route of about 40 kilometres around the mountain. Road riders can link Riebeek Kasteel and Riebeek West on the R311, about five kilometres apart.

The valley also hosts mountain-bike and trail events, which bring a lively crowd on race weekends.

In summer, start early and carry plenty of water. Back at Huis Agt, the pool is waiting.
