First Fridays: the village after dark

On the first Friday of each month, from five until eight in the evening, the village turns into one long, informal party. Shops stay open late, restaurants run specials, and there are tastings, exhibitions and often live music.

It is free and business-led, so there is no programme to buy and no queue to join. Walk from the house to the square, follow the noise and see where you end up.

Some wineries use the evening too. Mullineux & Leeu, for example, holds its Signature and Single Terroir tastings on the first Friday of the month, and those need booking ahead.

If you are staying the weekend, First Friday pairs well with the Village Market the next morning. Plan an easy Saturday.
