Riding to the Number 8

There is a mountain-bike loop of roughly 34 kilometres out of Riebeek Kasteel that leads to a viewpoint over the valley and a sculpture of the number 8. Riders rate it as moderate: you need reasonable fitness, but no technical skills to speak of.

Expect about two and a half to three hours of riding on farm roads and tracks, through vineyards, wheat and olive groves, with around 350 metres of climbing.

Start early in summer and carry more water than you think you need. There is very little shade once you leave the village.
